Good transportation is an important part of quality of life. Travel options and traffic congestion affect our moods, our environment, and our pocket books. In an effort to improve the transportation system a South Sound Travel Study will look at how we travel in the Thurston Region.
To understand local travel characteristics a number of households will be randomly selected to participate in a survey, recording their travel patterns and attitudes. Data from this research is used to update traffic models and analysis tools so that they reflect local conditions and preferences. The information collected in the study will help answer questions such as:
- How should we prioritize transportation investments?
- Where will road widening be needed in the future?
- What role can transit, biking, and walking play in improving regional mobility?
- What do we do about traffic congestion on I-5?

Thank you to all those participating – your input will help shape transportation decision-making over the next twenty years!
